Data Governance

DAMA-DMBOK

In a nutshell

The reference body of knowledge in data management, published by DAMA International, organising the discipline into areas such as governance, quality and metadata.

The DAMA-DMBOK (Data Management Body of Knowledge) is the profession's reference guide to data management, published by the international association DAMA. Its second edition dates from 2017 and has become the sector's common vocabulary.

It organises data management into eleven areas, with data governance at the centre: architecture, modelling, storage, security, integration, document management, master and reference data, data warehousing and BI, metadata and data quality.

It is not a certifiable standard and does not tell you exactly what to do in your company, but it is very useful to avoid gaps and to speak the same language as consultants, auditors and tools. Many definitions in this glossary follow its approach.
