Vietnam AI Law

In a nutshell

Vietnam’s risk-tiered AI law, in force since 1 March 2026 with a one-year grace period, requiring prior assessment for high-risk AI.

Vietnam passed an Artificial Intelligence Law in force since 1 March 2026, with a one-year grace period to adapt. It is one of Asia's first comprehensive AI laws.

It classifies systems as high, medium or low risk. High-risk systems need a conformity assessment before use and must be reported to the Ministry of Science and Technology; medium-risk systems mainly have transparency obligations.

The scheme resembles the EU AI Act, so a company that already classifies its systems and documents them under the EU regulation has a good basis to adapt.
