Consistency (data quality)
The data quality dimension that measures whether the same data says the same thing everywhere it appears, and does not contradict other data.
Consistency breaks when the same customer has one address in the CRM and another in billing, or when a cancellation date is earlier than the start date.
It is measured in two ways: across systems (the same data matches in two applications) and within a record (fields don’t contradict each other).
The underlying fix is usually deciding which system is the source of truth for each data element, which is exactly what master data management does.
