EU database (registration of high-risk systems)

In a nutshell

The public EU register in which high-risk AI systems must be entered before being placed on the market or used.

The Commission runs an EU database (Article 71) where Annex III high-risk systems are registered. The provider must register the system before placing it on the market (Article 49), and also systems for which it relies on the Article 6(3) "not high-risk" exception.

Deployers that are public authorities or bodies must also register their use of the system. Some sensitive areas (law enforcement, migration) are registered in a non-public section.

Do not confuse this official register with the internal inventory of AI systems every company should keep: the first is an obligation of the high-risk provider; the second is the basic tool to know what AI you use and what obligations you have.
