EU declaration of conformity and CE marking

In a nutshell

The document signed by the provider taking responsibility for compliance, and the CE mark that accompanies it on high-risk AI.

After the conformity assessment, the provider of a high-risk system drafts and signs the EU declaration of conformity (Article 47). With it, the provider takes responsibility for the system's compliance with the AI Act. Its minimum content is in Annex V: identification of the system and provider, a statement of compliance, standards applied, the notified body if any, and place, date and signature. It must be kept for 10 years.

The provider then affixes the CE marking (Article 48), visibly and legibly. For digital systems it can be a digital marking accessible from the interface. It is the same mark you see on toys or appliances and means the product can circulate freely in the EU.

Deployers do not sign these documents, but they should check that the high-risk system they buy has them.
